The concept of Originals began in March 2011 when they acquired the rights to House of Cards, an hour-long political drama, debuting in 2013 February. The library of Netflix Originals is growing since and Netflix has started self-producing its original contents like Chelsea and The Ranch internally through Netflix Studios.
Why does Netflix make these Originals?
- One advantage that Netflix gains with such original shows are that these content stays with them for almost forever while other contents stay for a short period (mentioned in the agreement).
- Another benefit is they can make more money from these original materials because they do not have to pay royalties to every other company involved.
- The third reason is to keep off their rival companies because these original programs cannot be streamed anywhere else (and well, Netflix have made some good Originals which takes them ahead of their rivals).

Stranger Things by Duffer Brothers, a throwback, and a postcard of love to the 80?s movies of John Carpenter and Steven Spielberg, feels both new and familiar at the same time. A boy named Will is trapped by The Thing like a monster and captured in a Poltergeist-like world. The mother of the kid reports to the local sheriff about the disappearance of her boy. While the dorky and Goonies-like best friends of Will do some detective work by themselves, an unknown girl with some telepathic powers befriends them. The investigation into the disappearance of Will and the discovery of the alien girl with telepathic powers leads to a power-plant which is operated by a character name Dr. Brenner. It is a great PG sci-fi/horror series resembling the blockbusters of the 80?s and will be a new experience for younger generations.

Though many people think that Bloodline is underrated and overshadowed by other original criminal dramas of Netflix Originals, it is an excellent drama series about a family having some darkest of the secrets. The cast of the show includes notable actors as Kyle Chandler, Ben Mendelsohn, Sam Shepard, Linda Cardellini and Sissy Spacek.? Conceived by the makers of another underrated drama series, Damages, which is also currently available on Netflix; but Bloodline has another season to be premiered in the coming future, unlike Damages. Luke Cage is the third entry in Marvel?s Defenders series which follows the main character Cage, who was introduced to Harlem, originally in Jessica Jones. Cage works as a dishwasher in a restaurant and as a sweeper in a barber shop. He has an unbreakable skin and a superhero strength and is dragged into fighting crimes, violence, and corruptions in Harlem city. The character Cage played by Mike Colter straddles the line between kind and imposing, perfectly, and the series is equally thematically compounded when compared to Jessica Jones. Though it is thematically bold, it is wavier in pace and storytelling, and the content becomes predictable and conservative at times. It is renewed for a second season and promises to be better in coming episodes.

When the deal between Netflix and Marvel TV was made, there were only a few people who expected Marvel?s Daredevil to be a super hit show. Bojack Horseman is a story of a ?finished? star of the 90?s sitcom Horsin? Around, Bojack, a horse. After sleeping around and boozing for a decade, Bojack attempts to bring back his celebrity pertinence back to life, but with mixed up results. His agent and his Off-again, on-again girlfriend, is the Persian Cat; is in love with a woman working as a ghostwriter for his autobiography; a golden Labrador is a rival to his previous show; and a roommate that once came to a party in his house and never left. The plot is a bizarre satire of celebrity and Hollywood culture. However, BoJack Horseman may well be the most honest examination of depressed people. The writing is to the point, there are different layers in the jokes, and the plot is hilarious, but underneath all these, we will still find melancholy and depressions.Well, BoJack may appear to be the horse, but it is one of the most humane in nature character to be presented on the TV series. It may take 2 or 3 episodes to hook you, but once you are hooked, it is going to be an impossible series to unhook oneself from.

What a platform Netflix has been for Sense8! This series could not have been successful anywhere else. J Michael Straczynski and the Wachowskis collaborated to give us one of the best sci-fi shows that actively delves on the sexuality, gender inequality and other topics on social taboos, which many shows even don?t dare to talk. Eight strangers from around the globe find themselves to be linked with each other mentally. To add a degree of authenticity to this premise, Sense8 was shot over in various cities in several countries.Production of Sense8 for season 2 has already been started, and it is expected that the shooting will be carried out in sixteen cities around the world.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt would not have reached such heights if it had been premiered, according to its original plan, on NBC. But because it is not, we can see Ellie Kemper as a star-in-the-making on her role as Kimmy in the series. This show, though new, has already developed a huge fan base. And it is not difficult to see why. The show is strangely ?weird? and very hilarious. The premise of the show is that the character Kimmy was captured in a cult for several years, but she rejected to let her past get in her way for a new beginning ? even if she did not know how she was going to that. Ellie Kemper completely justifies her role as Kimmy in the series. Her reactions to the modern world are hilarious to watch. Season 2 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is coming soon, and it has been renewed for the third season too.

The streaming service of Netflix has grown rapidly and established its individual existence as the viewer has adapted quite nicely to the binge model of curated TV service it provides. Opposite to watching the episodes of the series on a weekly basis on the cable networks, fans can watch the series in a continuous way in Netflix. And if ever comes a day, when Netflix must ultimately rely on its original shows and movies, there will be enough shows already to fill in the library.
