Finn Wolfhard was born on December 23, 2002, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He has a Jewish descent and studies in a Catholic school.

He made his first acting appearance as Zoran in The 100. In 2016, Finn Wolfhard started casting in the Stranger Things series, which proved to be a turnaround for his acting career. Wolfhard went through an open casting call audition for the role of Mike Wheeler in Stranger Things. He, along with his co-actors, won a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
