Movie plot
The film will follow Cyntoia Brown’s story as a teenager being trafficked into sex work, about her time in prison as she shot a man in self-defense, and enduring abuse. Cyntoia Brown was arrested in Nashville, Tennessee, for murdering a 43-year-old real estate agent, Johnny Allen. Allen had paid Brown $150 to have sex with him. They both met at a parking lot and went to Allen’s home, where Brown shot him in the back of Allen’s head. In 2004, she was sentenced to spend 51 years in jail. She was only 16 years old when she went to her first trial for the murder. She is also questioned about her past. The documentary centers the story of Brown starting from the week she was put on trial for murdering Johnny Allen until six years till her conviction.

The National Women’s Law Center gave a message of celebration when the announcement of Brown’s released is made in August of last year. The justice-minded organization also shared that she should not have been in prison in the first place.

Netflix has constructed a strong base of original programs in a few short years. Under Netflix Originals, Netflix has produced different series, films, documentaries covering various genres: drama, comedy, animations, thrillers, science fictions, etc. The television series are obviously the more popular shows on Netflix, but to overlook some of the equally good original movies will be an injustice. These original movies do cover various genres and features star-studded casts; in short, there is a film for everyone in Netflix Originals.

Check our list below for some of the Netflix Original movies that you should not miss out!

Top 5 Best Netflix Original Movies 2020

  1. Tallulah

    Netflix Original Movies

After breaking up with boyfriend, a homeless young drifter steals a baby from a wealthy but negligent housewife, and this triggers a police manhunt. A successful woman, whose husband left her for a man, gets shocked when the baby shows up outside her door, with the kidnapper who claims herself to be the grand-daughter of the woman. Tallulah, a Netflix Original movie, has the premise of a Lifetime original film, but the graceful and detailed characterization of the protagonists makes the movie to stand out. Ellen Page plays a free-spirited main character in the movie, which tells three different stories on motherhood and avoids trite clichés. The plot drives the audience on the very edge of their seat until the kidnapping mystery of the child is solved. Tallulah is all about three different women who find themselves unfit for motherhood for various reasons. Director Sian Heder has dared to explore various flaws in the characters but is equally careful in passing judgment and drawing any moral conclusions.

  2. The Siege at Jadotville

    Netflix Movie List

The Siege at Jadotville is a film on the war between small U.N. troops from Ireland and hundreds of Belgian/French mercenary forces tied to a cruel Congolese leader, fought in 1961. This movie by Richie Smyth is all about the six-day battle that has been forgotten by the history, contains a fair amount of combat suspense but full of clichéd dialogues. This movie represents an exciting story of ingenuity and bravery in the face of doom, also spotlighting the political leadership callous enough to let a bunch of young soldiers to stand their ground for the war period without any external help. Though the film could have done better by avoiding the conventional approach of entirely explaining the real Africa through a white’s perspective, it does justice in reclaiming some pride in Irish Military History. The movie has still ignored who these Irish were fighting for, and this drags the movie a little back.

    [adinserter block=”4″]

In a nutshell, a good Netflix Original movie to watch out.

  3. The Fundamentals of Caring

    Netflix Movies 2017

After the tragic death of his son because of his mere negligence, Ben (Paul Rudd), a retired writer, finds his life falling apart. His wife has demanded a divorce from him, and his career is almost over. Ben, desperate to land a new job, becomes the caretaker of an 18-year-old boy Trevor (Craig Roberts) who is suffering from Muscular Dystrophy. These two make a road trip to the World’s Largest Pit and reconnect Trevor with his father. On their way, they come in contact with an orphaned runaway girl (Selena Gomez) and a pregnant woman, Peaches (Megan Ferguson). The plot develops and circumscribes around the life of these characters. The Fundamentals of Caring is based on the book by Jonathan Evison, but sadly, simplifies too many themes and chooses to wallow in the forced clichés instead of the characters. Paul Rudd, however, saves the day with his natural acting and does a commendable task to find the truth in the over-written scripts. But, this heartwarming dramedy cherishes the unlikely friendships in life and is one of the must-go movies in the Netflix network.

  4. The Little Prince

    Netflix Movies 2016

‘Le Petit Prince’ by Antoine de Saint has been translated into more than 250 languages, and around 140 million copies have been sold worldwide. Millions of parents have read this to their children and have been adapted into radio plays, TV shows, and different film versions. Then what is the purpose of this story being told again? Did Mark Osborne, the one who directed ‘Kung Fu Panda’, have anything new to add to this timeless story? Yes, he had. Through The Little Prince, he can create an excellent feature film which will keep the kids entertained, and the adults entranced. It is a big-hearted tale of friendship, adventure, and imagination which can treat its audience with the respect that most American family films forget to do. Not a pop song or a forcible humor joke in the movie and it still manages to do what most of the films fail to do – it doesn’t talk down to its audience, lets them do their interpretation and imagination! If you were disappointed with The Angry Birds and Ice Age: Collison Course, do watch The Little Prince and fall in love once again with a feature film.

  5. Beasts of No Nation

    Best Netflix Originals Movies

The director Cary Fukunaga proves himself as the master of original but dynamic images through the award-winning Netflix drama Beasts of No Nation. We walk in the shoes of Agu, an eight-year-old child soldier of a non-existing African country, and through the journey of the film, we may feel that the shoes that we thought we were once it is long gone and we make a bare feet trip over the time. This masterpiece work is based on the novel, entitled the same as the film, by Uzodinma Iweala, a Nigerian sociologist, and doctor. The movie is a raw, despairing story of the child warrior Agu. He laments how peaceful his life was before, how happy he was with these parents and three siblings. A civil war takes the life of his father and brothers and after his mother and the younger siblings flee, Agu runs, for his life, into the forest and comes under the influence of Commandant, a brutal rebellion leader. Agu feels like he has found a mentor, a father in Commandant who will teach him to lead a better life, but what was he teaching – murder, rape, and violence. Thus, he decides to revert himself to the boy he once was, but will his past haunt him, or will he reach his ‘better life’? Watch out to find out. A must watch Netflix original movies.

The countdown of the top Netflix Originals documentaries begins now.

5 Best Netflix Documentaries Original

  1. What Happened, Miss Simone?

    Netflix Documentaries Original

Liz Garbus may present himself supporting an argument that it was her mental health was what made Nina Simone a genius, not the causes around her. But the scenes in the documentary betray this, and you may never know if Garbus ever believed in it. What Happened, Miss Simone is a compelling documentary where the actor speaks for herself through the interviews she has given and her diary and performances in various shows. There are moments where different aspects of Simone’s career have been neglected for representing her downfall which seem straight and predictable, but the documentary itself is a marvelous one. Simone, a famous singer in the late 60s, has a powerful tenor and control over her piano. She was later in her matured career, embraced the radical politics rashly, probably the cause of her downfall? She struggled with fame, anger, and politics at times but it did not affect her ability to drive people crazy with her voice. Many people still believe that the answer to What Happened is still unclear in the documentary. But it can be related that the same qualities that escalated her popularity were the primary cause of her downfall. The actual footage of her concert can be seen in the documentary, and it is more than enough for a reason to watch this documentary. Truly one of the best documentaries on Netflix.

  2. The Square

    Best Netflix Documentaries

This documentary provides accurate insight into the political changes that the Tahrir Square has seen over the years. How the power has shifted from one level of the dictator to another in the making through the revolution has been showcased perfectly through this documentary. The downfall of cynical Hosni Mubarak turned the power to the intolerant Muslim Brotherhood. A new dictator was born in Mohammed Morsi, the new president. The vast mass movement happened for the second time – this time Morsi being ousted. The overhead shots of the mass movement at the peak time were captured very beautifully which shows the swarm of people on all streets all over the city.

    [adinserter block=”4″]
The Square takes us to the journey of 3 different peoples who were the part of this history being made. Because the situation is still developing, the documentary becomes more compelling to the viewers.

  3. The Battered Bastards of Baseball

    Netflix Original Documentaries

In the 1970s, Kurt Russell halted his acting career for playing baseball professionally in a minor-league team founded by his father Bing, the Portland Mavericks. The Battered Bastards of Baseball is a highly entertaining true story that portrays the glorified history of the Mavericks, a team of ‘rejects and misfits.’ A team which seemed more kind of tailor-made for a sports comedy than reality but to everybody’s surprise, they were a team which chronicled the apex of the success and popularity in the coming days. This documentary is the best of the underdog’s story and can be anyone, not just some sports fan. What adds to the beauty of this documentary? The contemporary interviews that were given by Kurt and other people remembering the glory days of passion and individualism and some wonderfully archived footages. And no surprise, a Hollywood remake is on the way!

  4. 13th

    Netflix Originals

The title of the documentary 13th by Ava DuVernay points out the loophole in the 13th Amendment to the American Constitution, which states “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for the crime of which the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States.” 13th is a sweeping documentary which highlights the state of race in America, the imbalance in the way the black people are sentenced based on their crimes as compared to people of white race. Ava creates a masterpiece of illustrious historical synthesis with the incorporation of archival footages and interviews of various activists, politicians, and historians into her heavy-research documentary.

  5. Virunga

    Watch Netflix Originals

A thriller beautifully filmed in Virunga National Park in Congo, Virunga reflects the story of the struggle between the Park Rangers and various adversaries that include different poachers, goons from the oil company, and Islamic revolutionary army. This documentary can catapult the audience into the struggle of protecting the endangered mountain gorillas from different adversaries mentioned above. This story of protecting the mountain gorillas will break your heart; and at the same time, it will also restore the faith in humanity through the struggle the people face to save the endangered species. The editing is top-notch only matched by the best of Hollywood action movies, Virunga is an intense documentary which also does appreciate the natural beauty of the place.
