When it comes to Indian web series, Sacred Games is probably the best in the business. It’s a Netflix original series, first released in 2018, starring Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte, and Kalki Koechlin.

The series is centered following a terror attack in Mumbai, by the intelligence of gangster Ganesh Gaitonde (Siddiqui). Now, it all in the hands of police office Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan) to rescue the city from blasting up withing 25 days. However, he’s a cop without a case and doesn’t know how deep the plan is.

2. Delhi Crime

The series is based on one of the most traumatic and heart-wrenching rape incidents known as the Nirbhaya rape case in the capital city of India, New Delhi. Deu to the nature of the crime, Delhi Crime will blow up your mind for sure in these seven episodes.

As most of the media reports were centered on the victim and the incident, Richi Mehta has taken the viewers behind the scenes of the investigation led by Delhi Police. The series goes through different difficulties faced by Delhi Police in the inquiry, bureaucratic pressures, political influences, and lack of resources.

3. Leila

It is the first dystopian Indian original seires based on a novel from Prayaang Akbar. Leila has a lot in common to Hulu’s original show, The Handmaid’s Tale. However, it’s not a full-on duplicate of the famous The Handmaid’s Tale, it has taken some elements from it.

Nonetheless, the original series directed by Deepa Mehta deserves a lot of credit. The series tells the story of a woman Shalini (Huma Qureshi), who is kidnapped and taken to a totalitarian regime called Aryavarta.

4. Ghoul

Ghoul is the second Netflix original series from India released in 2018, following Sacred Games. It is a horror web series based on the Arab folklore monster ghoul directed and written by Patrick Graham.

The story’s setting is in India in a dystopian future where autocracy is at its best. The series is centered on the inquiry of a terrorist named Ali Saeed in a secret government burial camp that leads to unleashing supernatural and horrifying events as a result.

5. Selection Day

Selection Day is a sports series released in 2018 is based on Aravind Adiga’s 2016 novel of the same name and produced by Anil Kapoor and Anand Tucker. The series stars Mohammad Samad, Yash Dholey, Karanvir Malhotra, Rajesh Tailang, Mahesh Manjrekar, Ratna Pathak Shah, Shiv Pandit, Pural Gulati, and Akshay Oberoi, who have put on an impressive performance over the series.

Selection Day follows the story of two small-town teenagers Manju (Samad) and Radha (Dholye), whose dream is to become international cricketers. They get coached by his father, who is a strict taskmaster. The boys earn a scholarship to be in a reputable sports school run by Pathak. After that, things start to change. It includes 12 episodes, and each chapter is a lesson, portrayed very well.

6. Little Things

In the first place, it wasn’t a Netflix original show, but later on, Netflix went on to buy the franchise. Little Things has two seasons, and already three is on its way to premiere. The series focuses on a couple living together in Mumbai, Dhruv (Dhruv Sehgal), and (Kavya (Mithila Palkar). Little Things tells the story of the daily livelihood of the couple and follows their relationship over time.

The series is very light-hearted and is relevant and relatable to most of the young couples who are struggling to settle.

7. Bard of Blood

The series is a Political espionage thriller show released in 2019. The web-series is based on the 2015 espionage novel of the same name written by Bilal Siddiqi.

The series follows the story of four Indian intelligence officers who belong to the Indian Intelligence Wing (IIW). They are endangered before they get to spread important information to India. They get caught and are about to be executed. The story revolves around a haunted house in Goa.

It’s an Indian Horror web series premiered on 19 July 2019 and is directed by Sujoy Ghosh. The setting of the series is done in Goa, India. The show tells the story of a group of school children Sameera (Sharma), Satyajit (Gandhi), and Devraj (Kamble). The children form a ghost club and appoint their first mission to seek a ghost on the haunted villa. They get excited by the old story of an old man who died writing a novel called The Ghost of Sultanpur.

However, before the children find a ghost in the villa, a new family shifts in, and the legend of the villa returns back. Afterward, things start to get scary.

9. Jamtara – Sabka Number Ayega

The crime-dram web series written and directed by Soumendra Padhi was released on 10 January 2020. The show stars Amit Sial (Brajesh Bhaan), Dibyendu Bhattacharya (Biswa Paathak), Aksha Pardasany (Dolly Sahu).

The series tells the story of ambitious, young, active people who have the world before them. Sunny and Rock, the masterminds and cousins alongside their friends, silently execute a successful phishing scam from their village Jamtara, Jharkhand.

10. Stories by Rabindranath Tagore

The Indian web-series was released 6 July 2015 and included 26 episodes. The show’s setting in is Bengal from the 1920s, represents the classic short stories of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. During his literary work, Tagore concentrated on relationships colored by human weaknesses and quirks. Most of the time, confident women were his story protagonists. Tagore’s stories were growing and brought a change in the mindset of traditional Indian values.
