Netflix Vs HBO, which one is better?

If you enjoy watching movies and series, you probably know about streaming platforms and their services. And which one of them offers the best streaming services in the increasing TV streaming market. We know that Netflix streaming is best, but HBO has given a tough competition to Netflix.

Many of us know about the streaming providers, but may not be able to figure out the difference between Netflix and HBO. Both platforms have been around for years, with millions of customers. Each service has its original material and a complete library of films to watch. While there are many similarities between Netflix and HBO, they are also quite different.

If you are stressed to find out which service is the best for you, the article will guide you accordingly.

Netflix Vs. HBO, Which one is better?

Overview

Netflix

Netflix, certainly the largest streaming service in the world, has 167 million subscribers. Netflix has memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, documentaries, and feature films across a wide variety of genres and languages.

HBO

HBO, as a whole Home Box Office Inc., an American cable TV company that has become the leading premium cable station for its innovative film mix and programming

Price

Pricing Plan of Netflix

Netflix has a three-tier pricing structure, The Basic only costs $ 7.99 per month, but doesn’t allow users to view more than one screen at a time and limits the quality of playback to standard resolution.

The Standard costs $ 9.99 per month and allows you to access content on two screens simultaneously and guarantees playback in HD or 720p quality.

The Premium costs $ 11.99per month and increases the number of simultaneous screens to four users, making it the best choice for a family or sharing with friends. It also releases playback in Ultra HD or 4K resolution.

Pricing Plan of HBO

HBO Now is priced at $ 14.99, almost double the price of Netflix. The best part of HBO Now is that it is a standalone package, which does not require the use of a cable subscription and also offers a 7-day free trial.

Content Library

Netflix

Netflix offers over four thousand different titles, of which almost 1300 are series. There are classics like The Walking Dead, Rick and Morty, Vikings, Grey’s Anatomy, and Breaking Bad, as well as very famous films like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Irish.

HBO

HBO has purchased the rights of some of the most recognized companies from other companies, such as Hereditary, The Matrix,  The Shining, and V for Vendetta. There are nearly 700 different titles in total, counting each category. On HBO, the user, speaking of series, gets only original productions (not available on any other platform), such as Watchmen, Game of Thrones, Westworld, and True Detective.

Interface and Ease of Use

Both streaming services have an easy-to-use application to meet the needs of each individual. Their interface is intuitive.

Netflix

To begin with, Netflix is much weaker at allowing multiple users to stream simultaneously if it is above the basic plan. You also have the choice to download shows for offline viewing – very useful for watching. Like, when you travel for work when you don’t have reliable Internet.

HBO

For HBO Now, the service also provides a simple application to facilitate your streaming experience. You can choose films or series based on your favorite genre. In other words, get aided with HBONow.

Netflix Vs HBO on Audio and Video Quality

Netflix offers 4K Ultra HD resolution and HDR streaming support. Netflix charges an extra for the privilege, reducing the monthly subscription fee to $16. Whereas, HBO has a lower resolution of only 1080p, which can be limited by the speed of the Internet connection.

As for Audio Quality, Netflix offers titles selected in Dolby Atmos, in addition to 5.1 and 7.1 audio encodings of the selected content. Similarly, HBO offers the default playback is two-channel stereo, and for about 5.1 channels, use an AV receiver with this capacity and configure the audio settings on the smart TV or streaming device accordingly.

Conclusion

If we want to make a suggestion, Netflix is still the king of the streaming world. But HBO offers exclusive benefits. Ideally, we recommend putting together multiple services that will provide access to a wide range of programs. But at some point, you will all have to make serious choices about what you can pay for better services.

Netflix Vs. Hulu, which is the best? It’s almost impossible for the new one to pick up the best one in the increasingly TV Streaming market. It will become harder than ever as each platform works differently, and which one will suit you according to your needs, budget, and taste.

Many people know the two streaming providers, but may not be able to figure out the difference between Netflix and Hulu? .Both platforms have been around for years, with millions of customers. Each service has its original material and a complete library of films to watch. While there are many similarities between Netflix and Hulu, they are also quite different.

And if you’re planning to sign up to either Netflix or Hulu or thinking to shift from one to the other. Don’t get confused; we are here for you brought everything you need to make that terrifying decision that will make a little bit easier.

Netflix Vs Hulu

Overview

Netflix, certainly the largest streaming service in the world, has 167 million subscribers. Netflix has memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, documentaries, and feature films across a wide variety of genres and languages.

Hulu is mainly Disney-owned streaming service has made some recent moves to better compete against Netflix. It is a video streaming platform founded over a decade and is only available in the US and Japan and recently hit more than 30 million subscribers.

Pricing Plan

Price is always an important consideration, especially when platforms like these are subject to rising subscription costs from time to time. But Hulu and Netflix handled their subscription plans differently.

Netflix has a three-tier pricing structure, from the $ 8.99 per month base plan to single-user SD streaming and a standard $ 12.99 per month plan for HD streaming for two concurrent users, to the $ 15 premium plan, 99 per month for 4K HDR streams and four simultaneous users. All Netflix plans are ad-free.

Hulu even offers 4K HDR streaming on its cheapest rate plan, which will cost you $ 5.99. To remove the ads, however, you’ll have to ban up to $ 11.99 a month (and you’ll still get them in a handful of shows, due to rights issues). Both plans allow only one user at a time.

Hulu has various upgrades and bundle options to include live TV or content from other services like HBO.  When Disney Plus launched in November 2019, there will also be a Disney Plus / Hulu / ESPN + pack for just $ 12.99 a month.

There’s also Hulu with Live TV which can act as a cable replacement for $ 44.99 a month if you want to cut the cable without losing the traditional channel layout

 Content Library

Since you will be using these services primarily for TV shows and movies in each library, and it is essential to compare what each of them offers.

Netflix has around 8,000 titles, reaching from documentaries and biographical films to some of the biggest sitcoms and TV shows available today. Netflix originals such as Bojack Horseman, When They See Us, Russian Doll, Stranger Things, and Orange are the New Black exclusively for the service. The platform also allows classic shows such as Seinfeld and The Office. There is a great variety of content, although many of them, in addition to the great hits, also mentioned.

Hulu has close ties to ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox, streaming big-name shows from all networks the day after their first run. It also has a lot of content from the likes of Bravo, Comedy Central and FX, and an extensive back catalog. Major shows include Saturday Night Live, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Marvel’s Runaways.

Interface and Ease of Use

Although Hulu has more flexibility for the rounds of additional content, however, Netflix is a clear winner for ease with its user-friendly interface and functionality.

To begin with, Netflix is much weaker at allowing multiple users to stream simultaneously if it is above the basic plan. You also have the choice to download shows for offline viewing – very useful for watching, say, when you travel for work when you don’t have reliable Internet.

Hulu’s lack of offline viewing remains a big problem – despite the promise of functionality dating back to 2017, and we hope it will improve soon.

Audio and Video Quality

Netflix offers 4K Ultra HD resolution and HDR streaming support. Netflix charges an extra for the privilege, reducing the monthly subscription fee to $16, Whereas Hulu provides 4K in their base cost.

As for Audio Quality, Netflix offers titles selected in Dolby Atmos, in addition to 5.1 and 7.1 audio encodings of the selected content. Hulu supports standard 2.0 stereo sound on most content and 5.1 surround sound.

Other features to consider

Do you want subtitles? Go with Netflix. In 2014, the company agreed to subtitle all of its content.

Will the children be watching? If you need parental control, Netflix is the way to go. In addition to having the ability to limit the Motion Picture Association of America / TV rankings to content as a universal site, Netflix also offers children a choice for individual profiles, ensuring that your child only sees PG and lower content. Hulu newly launched a lock feature on its mobile app that allows parents to unlock adult content before giving their children a smartphone or tablet.

Want Live TV? Hulu is best for Live TV, but you will have to pay a bit more for additional desired content. You would have to pay $55 for the monthly subscription for regular cable.

Conclusion

If we want to make a suggestion, Netflix is still the king of the streaming world. But Hulu offers exclusive benefits. And of course, as declared above, there will soon be a crazy number of other services to choose from. Ideally, we recommend putting together multiple services that will provide access to a wide range of programs, but at some point, we will all have to make serious choices about what we can actually pay for. If your resources are limited, both are still the best solution.

DisneyPlus Hotstar launches in India

Finally, Disney + Hotstar has launched in India from April 3. Hotstar, a settled streaming service in India has joined forces with Disney + looking to overtake the likes of other popular streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. The launch date was scheduled for March 29 but somehow went on to postpone for April 3.

Disney + Hostar will be streaming contents in nine different languages including, English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, Bengali, and Gujarati.

Good news if you are a Marvel fan as now you can watch all the Marvel Cinematic movies on Disney + Hotstar.

New Logo on Show

Hostar has changed its logo to Disney + Hotstar. The logo is the same as we saw in the brief beta release last month. The new logo is totally different in terms of Hotstar’s precious yellow star logo. The new logo falls more towards Disney’s iconic blue color.

For Disney Fans in India

One of the essential things about Disney + Hotstar is the integration of Disney+ content. The app has a separate section for all Disney + content. They made space for Disney+ removing the news section on the previous Hotstar app. Under Disney +, you discover different categories like Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic.

The “Recommend For You” section includes titles like The Mandalorian, The Lion King, and The Jungle Book. Below, you will also find the “New to Disney+” tab followed by Originals, Trending, Hit Movies, and more.

Parental Controls

Disney+ Hotstar app also comes with parental controls option. The app includes a “Kids Safe” mode, which can be turned on for age-appropriate content. It can be enabled by tapping on the hamburger icon on top and turning on the Kids Safe feature toggle.

Changes in User Interface

When it comes to changes in the user interface, there’s not a huge difference compared to the previous Hotstar app. One little change is that it includes the crown and star icon for premium and VIP plans, respectively. They are now classified simply by “P” and “V”

Disney + Hotstar Subscription Plans

Disney + Hotstar offers two subscription plans for its users – VIP and Premium.

Disney Plus Hotstar VIP – Rs 399/Year

With the Disney Plus Hotstar VIP subscription, you will get to enjoy all the content from Marvel Cinematic Universe with the best superheroes movies like Iron Man, Thor, The Avengers, and Ragnarok. It’s not just the Marvel Cinematic movies; you will also be able to watch films from Disney, including Frozen, Aladdin, The Lion King, and Toy Story 4.

No doubt, Bollywood movies will also be available with Hotstar Originals and live sports.

Disney Plus Hotstar VIP was initially planned at Rs. 365/year.

Disney Plus Hostar Premium – Rs 1,499/Year

Before the collaboration with Disney Plus, Hotstar’s premium plan was priced at Rs.999/year. But now, the price has been raised, but it’s reasonable. With this plan, you will be able to enjoy all the benefits from the VIP subscription. In addition to that, you will be able to watch English language content and 29 Disney+ originals which include, The Mandalorian, High School Musical, The Musical: The Series, and others. By subscribing to Premium, you can watch the latest from American shows from HBO, Fox, and Showtime.

Existing subscribers will be automatically upgraded to the new subscription according to their subscription plan on renewal.

What About Free Users?

Well, if you are a free user, you will still be able to watch match highlights, match analysis of IPL, Premier League, ISL, BCCI cricket series, and individual performances. Besides, you get to watch some daily movies, TV shows, on-demand news in eight different languages.

Streaming services have become an essential part of our life. However, they don’t come free so, you might want to consider signing up on one of the streaming services instead of wasting money all over. There are a lot of streaming services flooding in the market, and among them, Netflix and Disney Plus are one of the most popular streaming services available.

Here’s the full article to help you figure out which streaming service is best to choose.

Netflix Vs DisneyPlus, which one is better?

Overview

Netflix is one of the streaming services in the world, with 167 million subscribers in over 190 countries. Netflix has a wide variety of TV series, featuring movies and documentaries of different genres. It has a simple and user-friendly interface, and of course, Netflix is known for the library of its films and shows, also known as Netflix Originals.

Disney Plus is one of the streaming services in the world, with 29 million subscribers in over a dozen countries. Disney Plus is an on-demand, add free streaming service that is created by The Walt Disney Company. It has an extensive collection of movies and shows from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, 20th Century Fox, and National Geographic.

Both streaming services don’t feature any ads while using them. Both Disney Plus and Netflix support downloading content for offline viewing. They also support streaming movies and TV shows at 4K resolution, but you should pay a lot of money for that privilege on Netflix.

Price Comparison

When it comes to talking about the price, Disney Plus is cheaper than Netflix.

Netflix offers you a free month of service and provides you three subscription plans, Basic, Standard, and Premium. The Basic subscription plan is the cheapest one, with the cost of only $8.99 per month. The standard subscription plan is the most popular plan charging $12.90 per month. And, the Premium subscriptions cost $15.99 per month.

Disney Plus costs $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year with a seven-day free trial. This price allows four users to stream Disney Plus at the same time.

User Interface

In Disney Plus, you get rows of tiles that separate shows by category. On clicking into Search, you can see sections for movies, shows, and originals. There is a tab for downloaded content, but there is no section to see what shows and movies you haven’t finished, and you don’t see an option to resume your left out videos. Disney Plus supports multiple user profiles. Disney Plus also has buttons for five distinct ‘channels’ – Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic.

Netflix’s algorithm is top class as it customizes the contents for you based on your watching history. Adding to the algorithm, its user interface is more compelling and makes it easier to navigate/search movies/shows. Unlike Disney Plus, you can resume your movies from where you left it out. Netflix’s genre-based categories are comedies, action, drama, or other. And yes, Netflix also supports multiple user profiles.

Platforms

Disney Plus apps are available in both Android and iOS mobile devices and also in Android TV televisions and set-top boxes. It can be streamed on a PC on web browsers. They are also available for Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4 consoles. It will also launch on Roku TVs, set-top boxes, streaming sticks, Amazon Fire TV sticks, and televisions.

Netflix is available for both iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, and it supports Chromecast devices, Roku and Amazon Fire TV-based devices, and smart TVs with built-in Chromecast along with set-top boxes. Of course, Netflix is available in a variety of web browsers for PC laptops and desktops and also on a ton of game consoles.

Content library

Talking about the availability of content, Netflix is the winner here.

Netflix has a massive selection of newer and older TV shows, movies, and documentaries, and also a vast library of its original content like the Do-Over, Rebirth, XOXO, Mascots, and many more. However, it’s also spending lots of money to fill up its service with tons of exclusive shows and movies. Netflix presents the most content across all genres. The list of newly available movies on Netflix is Goodfellas, National Treasure, Drive, Maska, Good Time, and many others.

Disney Plus is family-friendly, and it has limited original content like High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, The Mandalorian, Diary of a Future President, and many more. It has only 13 Disney Plus content. Disney Plus has access to a vast content of high-profile franchises such as Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, 20th Century Fox, and National Geographic. The list of newly available movies in Disney Plus is A Wrinkle in Time, Frozen 2, Ice Age, Black Panther, and many others.

Screen sharing

In Netflix, there are three subscription plans. According to the plan, the following screens can be shared at a time.

Netflix Basic plan- 1 screen

Netflix Standard plan- 2 screen

Netflix Premium plan- 4 screen

Likewise, Disney Plus offers only one plan that allows up to 4 screens at a time with content ranging from 4K and HD when available.

Conclusion

Both of the streaming services are of no expectation when it comes to the amount of featured content and the features. You should get a bit clear about what you want before choosing the streaming service. The good news is that there is no reason to not subscribe to both services. When considering all of the aspects discussed above, Netflix currently stands as the better option when compared to Disney Plus. Therefore, Netflix is the king.
